会阴切开术是自然生产时，由接生医师在产妇的会阴部剪一刀，其长度大约3公分长，以增加产道的开口，使胎儿顺利生产，并预防会阴不规则裂伤的发生。会阴指的是阴道与肛门之间的软组织，当胎头贴近阴道口，会阴受胎头挤压膨出，此时，就是医师判断是否需要切开会阴的时机。
